Whitehouse ISD celebrated the groundbreaking of Mozelle Brown Elementary School on Thursday.
One of four elementary schools, Brown Elementary will replace the current aging campus in downtown Whitehouse, and serve students from Pre-K through fifth grade. The campus will open in August 2018 and serve students in southeast Tyler and north of the city of Whitehouse.
“Whitehouse ISD is a strong school district and Brown Elementary School’s relocation will only help us better serve our students and parents who live in that area,” Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran said.
The new building will exceed 80,000 square feet and have an operational capacity of 750 students, but will open with a target population of about 550.
Officials from Smith County, the city of Tyler and those associated with the economic development of the East Texas area were present to support the groundbreaking and celebrate the strong partnership with Whitehouse ISD.
Brown Elementary School is being constructed by WRL General Contractors and was designed by Harris Craig Architects.
