A fire at Parrott Park – Old Mill Pond Museum destroyed a building housing women’s restrooms, but didn’t damage any of the antiques at the museum.

Firefighters were still investigating the cause of the blaze late Thursday. Lindale Fire Department Chief Cory Crowell said the call came in about 9:30 p.m. for a structure fire at the park at 2900 S. Main St.

Firefighters found the women’s restroom on the north side of the park engulfed in flames, but the fire was quickly extinguished.

Although the restroom facility is a total loss, the fire minimally damaged only one other facility, Crowell said. It charred an exterior wall and roof of a nearby building that housed antique engines and tractors, but did not reach the inside.

No one was injured in the fire, and no one was at the park when the firefighters arrived, Crowell said.

Firefighters from Dixie, Red Springs, Van and Lindale responded to the call. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Parrot Park – Old Mill Pond Museum is located on 23 acres. Opened in 2009, it is an agricultural and rural American history museum.

Leanna Echols, Lindale’s director of parks, said the buildings on site house objects that address different parts of history. There is a blacksmith workshop, a saw mill, a train exhibit and more.

The city owns and operates it, but Bill Parrott donated all of the items there.

Lindale’s interim city manager Carolyn Caldwell said the park would be closed Friday and Saturday so they could deal with the damage.

She thanked the firefighters for their work to contain the blaze saying that many of the items there are irreplaceable.
