Tyler residents have set a record this year for registered block parties during the annual Texans Against Crime event.
The event is set for 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Tyler Police Department has registered more than 120 residential block and apartment complex parties for the day, according to a police department news release. Last year, Tyler had about 113 block parties citywide to promote the program.
The Texans Against Crime program is an annual event designed to unite neighbors and communities to encourage neighborhood communication, community involvement and crime prevention, according to the news release.
The program encourages neighborhoods and businesses to have block parties as an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors and fight crime.
