Hotdogs, cotton candy and snow cones are on the menu Saturday at the Tyler Police Deparmtent's Faulner Park Police Substation.

The Tyler Police Department is asking the public to join in for a day of fun with family friendly activities, and the aforementioned kid-approved snacks, as part of the Texans Against Crime kickoff event.

Texans Against Crime is Tyler's version of National Night Out. It is held the second week in October in Tyler and throughout East Texas.

Saturday's kickoff event is open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Tyler Police Department Faulkner Park Station, 574 W. Cumberland Road.

Tyler residents also have the opportunity to host their own block party and get to know their neighbors as well as the men and women who protect the community during Texas Against Crime block parties that are planned for the second Tuesday of October throughout the city.

Those block parties will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 10 and are designed to encourage communication, community involvement and crime prevention.

Last year, more than 100 events were planned throughout Tyler and East Texas.

Residents can register their block parties up until Oct. 9.

Visit tylerpolice.com/community/TexansAgainstCrime to register a party or to download a registration form.

Call the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1096 to register the party with the Community Response Officers.
