Victoria Dickson as Mary Poppins, far left, and the dancing chimney sweeps, rehearse a scene in Tyler Junior College's spring musical "Mary Poppins." Freelancer/Schuyler Wick.

Chimney sweeps who step in time. Those precocious, kite-flying Banks children. The bird woman on the cathedral steps. A spoonful of sugar. That mysterious nanny who’s practically perfect in every way.

These iconic images and many more will come to life on the stage in Theatre TJC’s production of “Mary Poppins,” Disney’s musical retelling of the classic tale by P.L. Travers.

“There is absolutely nothing that compares to the excitement and energy of live theater,” said Production Director Denise Weatherly-Green, a theater professor. “From the costumes, sets and lighting to our live orchestra and exciting musical numbers, our students and faculty have poured everything they have into this production. It’s a spectacular show.”

The Tyler Junior College spring musical is a long-standing tradition, bringing together the talents of the school’s music, theater and dance departments.

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in Wise Auditorium on campus.
