Tyler firefighter transported to hospital following morning structure fire

The Tyler Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire near the intersection of Border Avenue and Selman Street at 10:18 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the 2-story residence. Four engines and one ladder company, along with two district chiefs and two investigators responded to the scene.

The residence was occupied by eight tenants, all of whom were able to evacuate the structure without injury. The structure suffered heavy fire damage throughout. There is no word yet as to the cause of the fire, as investigators continue their work examining the scene and interviewing occupants.



A Tyler firefighter was taken to a local hospital following a medical issue that occurred outside of the structure during the incident. At this time, the firefighter is undergoing additional testing and treatment. Updates regarding his condition will be released as more information is obtained. Firefighters and investigators remain on the scene.
