Tyler breaks record high Friday, more extreme heat on way

Friday was the hottest July 20 in Tyler since 1896, when it hit 102.



By 2:20 p.m. Friday, Tyler was at 103 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

More record-breaking temperatures are expected this weekend. The high Saturday is projected to be 107.

The weather service Thursday issued a heat advisory.

Officials are urging residents to remain in air conditioning if possible, drink plenty of water and to not leave children or pets inside vehicles.
