Two arrested in Smith County on suspected theft charges

Two people were arrested by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday for suspicion of theft of materials and criminal mischief.

Basiel Paul Bennett Jr., 37, of Tyler, was arrested for the suspected theft of materials consisting of aluminum, bronze, copper or brass valued at or less than $20,000, a state jail felony and for alleged criminal mischief, a misdemeanor offense.



Paula Jonel Glass, 44, of Mineola, was arrested for the alleged theft of materials consisting of aluminum, bronze, copper, or brass valued at or less than $20,000, a state jail felony.

Bennett was booked into the Smith County Jail shortly after 3:30 p.m. and was being held on $305,000 in bonds, according to Smith County judicial records. Glass was booked into the Smith County Jail at 9:43 p.m. and was being held on a $250,000 bond.
