In recognition of World Polio Day on Oct. 24, the three Rotary Clubs in Tyler raised over $3,500 to help eradicate polio. The total donation from the clubs will be sent to Rotary International with a 2-to-1 match from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, raising it to $10,500.
With the funds that have been raised with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation match, 17,500 children will be spared from ever contracting polio. Today, only two countries in the world continue transmission of polio: Pakistan and Afghanistan.
