The Breeze radio station selling after death of owner

Having just completed a peace rally that brought together and united many in the Tyler community on Saturday, those who work on the morning radio show were the first people to arrive at work Monday at The Breeze, 95.3/102.3, to learn the business is selling.

Radio DJs reported showing up to work about 5:30 a.m. Monday to a few changes, including changed locks and changes to the building’s interior.

Family members of former owner William “Bill” Dudley Waller confirmed Monday evening the station was selling following Waller’s death on June 4. Bill Waller’s family had continued to operate the stations he oversaw following his death.

Susie Waller, Bill Waller’s daughter, said the station is not off the air for good. She said the family is reorganizing and has entered into a sale. She said the family intends to have a meeting to discuss further details.

DJs with the radio station took to social media Monday apologizing to their listeners and indicating they had not been notified until Monday that they’d been terminated. In a Facebook post Monday evening, DJs with the Morning Madhouse radio show said they were sad to see their time at the station come to an end, but they hope listeners will continue to support the East Texas community.

“While our hearts are broken and 15-plus people need to find new jobs to support their families, we still feel blessed,” the Facebook post read. “For the past several years, we have had the honor of working with an amazing team led by Bill Waller and Angelica Love, where we all felt like family. Not only that, but we have had the most amazing listeners in the world who have always supported us, and for that we will always be thankful.”

Susie Waller said no decision has been made as to whether the same DJs will remain on air or if other staff will be retained, but owning the station has been a hard task for their mother, Dorothy Waller, who has faced a lot of stress since her husband passed away.
