The first Run for Your Life 5K fun run/walk will hit the streets of Tyler this Halloween weekend.
The Smith County Medical Society, a coalition that is the independent voice of the physician community in Smith County, is sponsoring the event and hoping to bring more awareness to the Tyler Family Circle of Care, a federally qualified health center that provides primary care services to all East Texans.
At 8 a.m. on Oct. 29, the 5K and one-mile run/walk event will start and end at Fun Forest Park. The course will tour North Tyler neighborhoods and pass Tyler Family Circle of Care’s 928 Glenwood Boulevard Clinic. Meanwhile the Fit City Tyler Coalition will partner in the festivities by holding their event within Fun Forest Park.
Led by family physician Dr. Li-Yu Mitchell, the goal of the 5k fun run is to raise awareness to local residents of the ability of the clinic to serve under- and uninsured patients.
The mission of the Smith County Medical Society is to promote and encourage the highest standards of ethical medical practice for the benefit of the community and to serve as advocate for the physicians of Smith County Medical Society in achieving this end.
“The Medical Society, through its partnership with Fit City Tyler, hopes to continue with this mission by offering the community an active, family-friendly event,” said Angela Driggs, Executive Director of Smith County Medical Society.
The 5K and one-mile fun run/walk events are set to start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 29on City Park Drive at Fun Forest Park.
Sponsorship opportunities are available and the Smith County Medical Society Foundation is a nonprofit organization. Online registration is now open.
