Smith County issues emergency declaration following heavy rain

Smith County issued a Declaration of Disaster on Tuesday because of the damages county roads and bridges sustained during recent rains.
Smith County Fire Marshal Connie McCoy-Wasson said the county estimates about $150,000 worth of damage was made to roads and bridges during those storms.
The fire marshal’s office and Road and Bridge crews assessed everything after the three-day rain event stopped on Saturday, Mrs. Wasson said. Crews are still assessing damage to some county roads.
If any resident needs assistance with damage to their property from this specific rain event, from March 9 through 11, the issuing of this disaster declaration could help them get funding from the state, Mrs. Wasson said.
