An 11-year-old girl who went missing from Athens on Thursday night has been found safe as of Friday night, authorities said.

An AMBER alert was sent out Friday morning as a “child abduction” from the Athens area in Henderson County.

Mia James, 11, left her home on County Road 3925 just north outside of Athens, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said. They believe she was picked up by an unknown suspect. Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said Friday afternoon authorities believe Mia met someone online that she didn’t truly know and left the home willingly with that person.

Hillhouse said K9 units, drone units, side-by-sides and other resources were being pulled to respond, looking for Mia. Several individuals were on foot looking for Mia as well.

“It’s all hands on deck,” Hillhouse said.

It’s early in the investigation, but Hillhouse said they have an idea about a suspect. Still, it’s too early to release further information, and Hillhouse is hoping technology assisting in the investigation will propel investigators to a more conclusive idea.

Tyler Police Department, the FBI, Texas Department of Public Safety, Chandler, Athens and Brownsboro police departments and numerous other agencies are responding. Agencies toward the metroplex were also assisting in the search.

Mia was found safe at a game room, according to CBS19.

The AMBER Alert that was released Friday afternoon prompted several tips and broadened the search area, Hillhouse explained.
