Jumpstart's "Read for the Record" is set for Tuesday at the Tyler Public Library, the city announced.
The event, presented by the Tyler Public Library in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is described in a news release as "an annual reading celebration that highlights the need for literacy across America by encouraging adults and children to set a record for the largest shared reading experience."
The featured title this year is "Bunny Cakes" by Rosemary Wells.
According to a news release, "Read for the Record" will take place during a variety of story times in Tyler. A special "Read to Your Bunny" story time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the library, located at 201 S. College Ave.
Children will be able to hear "Bunny Cakes," along with other great stories, and adult volunteers will share the story in various preschool classrooms, the news release reads.
"Reading aloud is a great way to encourage literacy, which is a vital part of quality early education," Linda Gray, youth services librarian, said in the release. "Imagine being a part of this nationwide event, just by coming in and experiencing the joy of story time. Last year's event included more than 2.4 million children and it would be exciting to see that number grow in 2014, knowing that our great community took part."
