SMITH COUNTY — Officials have conducted a preliminary investigation into a Monday night house fire in the Emerald Bay community of Bullard.
Multiple area fire crews responded to extinguish the fire at the home, located on South Bay Drive, around 7:15 p.m. Monday.
Two residents were able to get out of the home and were not injured, according to Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue.
Smith County Emergency Services District 2 representatives say firefighters had contained the fire by 8:45 p.m. and were able to give some salvageable items to the homeowners, including pictures and other valuables.
The Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the origin and cause of the fire, but Hogue said preliminary investigation showed the fire originated in the garage near a golf cart that was being charged.
The exact cause of the fire is still yet to be determined, but no foul play is suspected, Hogue said.
The fire was contained to the single property, but vehicles were damaged.
ESD No. 2 crews responded with three engines with additional support provided by volunteer firefighters from Flint-Gresham Volunteer Fire Department and Bullard volunteer firefighters. ESD No. 2’s Captain 1, Battalion 1, and Chief 3 were also on scene.
