Police searching for suspect in shooting; public’s help needed

Tyler police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man involved in a shooting earlier this month that left one person injured.

Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer Don Martin said police are still searching for Samuel Isai Ortega, 23, who they say shot 28-year-old Amos Carrillo about 5:30 a.m. the morning of March 18.



Martin said the shooting happened at a home in the 2400 block of Plume when the two men, who had had been drinking, got into an altercation.

Martin said Ortega fired several rounds, striking the victim in the driveway of the home.

Police crime scene units were on scene and were taking evidence as detectives spoke with neighbors to gather eye witness accounts.

Ortega is described as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 110 pounds. He was last seen driving a silver 2008 Honda Civic with Texas license KRY-619.

Martin said he did not know Carrillo’s medical status but said the man did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
