The Tyler Parks and Recreation Outdoor Education series is hosting an event that will teach participants what to do if ever they are lost in a forest.

On Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tyler State Park, 789 Park Rd. 16, participants will participate in navigation demonstrations, learning to use a map and compass to avoid being lost. The group also will learn how to build a survival campfire and prepare a meal by cooking with a Dutch oven.

The program is free. Youth must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, bring water and be prepared for a mile hike through the forest.
