A 9-year-old Grand Saline girl died Wednesday afternoon in a car wreck involving an 18-wheeler in Wood County.

The Mineola Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and Farm-to-Market Road 779 at 12:10 p.m., Steve Finley, the department’s spokesman, said. The intersection is near Golden, he said.

An SUV, driven by Amy Dogan of Grand Saline, crossed over the highway in front of an 18-wheeler driving at highway speeds, Finley said. The collision caused the truck to jackknife.

Ms. Dogan was airlifted to a Tyler hospital with critical injuries, and her 9-year-old daughter, Addison, died at the scene, said Trooper Jean Dark, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The driver of the truck, Donald Scott of Tennessee, was taken by ambulance to a Tyler hospital, she said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
