The Tyler Public Library’s Teen Advisory Council invites the public to the third annual Hunger for Hunger Food and Book Drive.

The event will take place on Saturday in the library’s auditorium. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m. with the first movie starting at 11:30 a.m. and the second movie starting at 2:15 p.m.

Admission to the movies is free, but participants are asked to donate gently loved books or nonperishable food items in exchange for concession stand items during the showing of the second and third movies based on the Hunger Games series.

“I am so happy our teens want to offer this fun program again,” said Youth Services Librarian Linda Gray. “It entertains while helping the people of our community. I enjoyed reading these books that inspired the movies and am anxious to see the two before watching the third film in the theater.”

For each gently loved book donated, attendees will receive three tickets. For each nonperishable food item donated, attendees will receive one ticket. The tickets can be exchanged for concession stand items during the movies. Donated by area restaurants and the Friends of the Tyler Public Library, concession stand items range in price from one to three tickets.

“I like helping others and think this is a fun event to motivate families to do the same,” said Dillon Kingsbury, Teen Advisory Council member.

The Teen Advisory Council is open to youth ages 12 to 18 and meets the third Saturday of every month at 1 p.m. in the Library’s auditorium. Many opportunities are available for members to earn volunteer hours, in addition to planning programs for their peers.
