“An Exscream Haunted House with a Christian Finale,” which is put on thanks to efforts from Jacksonville College Band members and other students, is scheduled for Thursday through Halloween.

A haunted house featuring zombies, a room of coffins, clowns and “a deadly baby” will open to the public this week, Jacksonville College announced.

“An Exscream Haunted House with a Christian Finale,” which is put on thanks to efforts from Jacksonville College Band members and other students, is scheduled for Thursday through Halloween. The attraction, at 401 Kickapoo St., at the intersection of Kickapoo and North Bolton streets, will be open from 7:30 to 11 p.m. on weekdays, and 7:30 to midnight on Friday, Saturday and Halloween.

Event coordinator Mike Kellogg, director of instrumental music at Jacksonville College, said the entrance is a lot creepier than it has been in the past.

Once inside, he said fun-seekers can expect to see “a normal person watching TV,” along with a lot of spider webs. They also will see other spooky things along their journey, including a room with coffins, a jack-in-the-box, clowns, “monsters” and what Kellogg described as a room that is “sort of an insane asylum for zombies.” In the end, Kellogg said, there will be a Christian finale.

He said about 700 or 800 people came to the haunted house last year, and he expects at least that many this time around.

The cost is $5 for students and $8 for adults.

According to a news release, only cash is accepted, and the college does not recommend the haunted house for children who are 11 or younger. Kellogg said the Jacksonville College Band will benefit from the proceeds.
