Edom Arts Festival celebrates 45th anniversary this weekend

The Edom Art Festival is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year with new artists, original music and the same love and friendship that was part of its founding.
Doug Brown of Potters Brown started the Art Fair in 1972. His goals were to provide a place for artists and craftsmen to sell their work, a weekend to come together and celebrate the arts and friendship, and an opportunity to show what a nurturing place Edom was for artists, according to a news release from his wife, Beth, this year’s festival director.
Over the years the fair has had different directors and locations, even coming to Tyler for a stint before moving back to Edom. But it’s aim has not changed.
Today, the Edom Craft Community manages it and the Edom Chamber of Commerce is involved.
The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Art, fine crafts, live music and food will fill the grounds behind artists’ studios along Farm-to-Market Road 279 in Van Zandt County.
The juried show will include painting, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, weaving, clothing, blown glass and handmade stringed instruments. Artists will demonstrate the crafts of pottery, blacksmithing and raku firing.
On the stage, singer/songwriters will entertain in an acoustic setting. Children can play and create crafts in the children’s art area. The festival also will have food vendors and a wine garden.
“This is a true labor of love for us to take the reins and continue on with the festival after all these years, to nurture it and provide a new energy, and what better way than for it to come back around to us,” Beth Brown said.
