The Texas Department of Public Safety will permanently close the current Jacksonville Driver License Office, 506 East Pine St., at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in preparation for the opening of a new Jacksonville Driver License Office.

The new office, at 2028 East Rusk St., opens at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

The new Jacksonville office will be nearly 3,000 square feet and feature queuing technology that allows customers to get in line online before they arrive at the office.

To take advantage of this new technology, please visit: http://www.dps.texas.gov/administration/driver_licensing_control/rolodex/getinlineonline.htm when the office opens.

Many Texas drivers are eligible to skip the trip to a driver license office altogether and instead take advantage of online services for driver license and ID card renewals, duplicates or address changes by visiting Texas.gov.

Customers also can renew by phone at 1-866-357-3639. The eligibility requirements for phone renewal and online renewal are the same. The fee is the same for online, in-person and telephone renewals.

Customers may renew their driver’s license or Texas ID card one year early prior to its expiration date, which allows drivers to choose a convenient time that fits their schedule.
