Students, staff and guests from the community gathered Thursday for a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the new Cumberland Academy High School on Paluxy Drive in Tyler.

The long-awaited attendance center for the charter school system opened earlier this month, later than anticipated after heavy rains in the spring delayed construction. Students opened the school year in temporary classroom space at Tyler’s First Christian Church while builders worked to finish the school.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) provided keynote remarks for the event, which was held in the gymnasium at the new school. Gohmert then joined students and board members in cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening of the school. A reception followed in the school cafeteria.
