Cinergy Entertainment has canceled its planned entertainment complex in Tyler, which was announced just last July. The complex would have featured glow-in-the-dark bowling, laser tag, arcade games and a bar and restaurant.
It was planned to be in the Village South shopping center, adjacent to The Village at Cumberland Park.
Though the company announced the new location on July 12, 2016, in a press release, that release is no longer on the company’s website.
The site instead lists three other locations that will be opening in 2017 – Amarillo, El Paso and Edinburg.
Cinergy leaders reportedly rethought the complex when they realized they wouldn’t be able to add movie screens due to the proximity of Studio Movie Grill.
“While we fell in love with the Tyler market and agree that it needs an entertainment center, we felt that we have to stay true to the Cinergy concept which includes the cinema,” Cinergy spokesperson Traci Hoey said in an email. “After opening our Odessa facility, we are firmly convinced that the cinema is a required component of a Cinergy. In this specific location we would not be able to offer a cinema in our development center due to the existing cinemas in the area. Thus, we have decided to not move forward with the project.”
Matt Wilson, of The Retail Connection, which manages the shopping centers The Village at Cumberland Park and Village South, said he still hopes to get a bowling and entertainment company into the center.
“There is nothing in our contract with Studio Movie Grill preventing a bowling alley,” said Wilson. “We are surprised that a full bowling and entertainment concept has not pulled the trigger on Tyler yet. It is a perfect market. We are continuing our efforts to lock one down, and are currently in negotiations with a concept which doesn’t have bowling but has pretty much everything else.”
