Christian singer, songwriter and author Tammy Trent will share her story of hope during the SPCA’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s event on Saturday.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Green Acres Baptist Church’s CrossWalk Conference Center, 1607 Troup Highway, in Tyler.
Women are welcome to wear their black dresses, pearls and tiaras if they like, though that attire is not required.
Ms. Trent, who lives in Nashville, said her hope is guests will walk away feeling “like they’ve experienced the fullness and richness of God in their own stories.”
In 2001, after 11 years of marriage to Trent, whom she had met when she was a teenager in youth group, he died suddenly in a diving accident in Jamaica.
She said after his death her life took a huge turn and one she never saw coming. God gave her a platform. It was just one she did not expect.
“I trusted God in the beginning, even though my world was shaken,” she said, adding that she knew enough not to run away from Him, but to run to Him.
Though she trusted God, she said dealt with anger, confusion and questions like many other people who go through challenging situations.
“No matter, what you’re going through at this exact moment, God has not abandoned you,” she said.
SPCA board officer Cindi Featherson-Shields said through this event, the organization wants to embrace the entire community.
“We’re in the community to make a difference,” she said.
Event proceeds will benefit the SPCA of East Texas, an organization with a mission to “improve the lives of animals, alleviate their suffering and elevate their status in society,” according to its website.
The SPCA’s work includes finding foster homes for dogs, operating a spay and neuter clinic and running an adoption facility.
Last year, the SPCA spayed or neutered 3,500 dogs and cats and saw 420 dogs adopted.
Ms. Featherston-Shields said the organization estimates 800 dogs will be adopted this year.
Event tickets cost $40 each or $100 for VIP tickets. They can be purchased online at http://breakfastattiffanystyler.com or by calling 903-330-3333.
