A Chapel Hill High School football player is in critical condition due to injuries suffered in a wreck over the weekend.

Zach Dyer, a junior on the junior varsity team, is in the Intensive Care Unit and unresponsive, according to information provided by the family.

“I pray he gets better,” Coach Thomas Sitton said. “He’s a great hardworking kid. He will (get better). He’s a tough kid.”

Doctors have had to remove a portion of Dyer’s skull to reduce swelling. Family said early morning CT scans showed the procedure has helped alleviate some of the pressure.

His mother Missy Dyer has had to take unpaid leave and has been unable to leave the hospital.
