An 18-year-old Carthage man died late Wednesday in a fatal two-vehicle crash in Panola County.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to the crash about 11:20 p.m. on Texas Highway 315 three miles southwest of the city of Longbranch.

A news release said the preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Volvo D13 truck tractor towing a semi-trailer driven by Daniel Richard Gama, Jr., 52, of Deer Park, was traveling northeast on Highway 315. Troopers said the truck approached a gradual left hand curve in the roadway while a 1983 Ford Mustang driven by Caleb Scott Gibbs was traveling southwest and entered the right hand curve. 

Gibbs failed to negotiate the curve, causing the Mustang to travel on the wrong side of the roadway colliding with the truck in the northeast lane of Highway 315, according to DPS.                  

Gama Jr. was not injured.
