Chandler Elementary School students held out their hands as 156 Brownsboro High School seniors took a “senior walk” around their school in celebration of their upcoming graduation on Friday.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for our kids to see the end goal and to celebrate the success of our seniors,” said Chandler Elementary School Principal Ricky Daily.

The seniors also walked the campuses of Chandler Intermediate School, Brownsboro Elementary School and Brownsboro Intermediate School. The tradition started in 2016 as a way to honor graduating seniors and to have a positive impact on younger students.

The class of 2018 has a 100 percent graduation rate. Valedictorian Luis Suarez, who led the line of graduates through the lower school hallways, is the first student in Brownsboro ISD history to head to Harvard University.

The seniors wore their full graduation attire complete with caps, gowns and honor cords. Brownsboro High School Principal Brandon Jones allowed each senior to carry one item that meant something to them during their time in high school, such as a drill team hat, speech and debate gavel, a band instrument or a basketball.

After the walk the seniors had an opportunity to give personal testimonies about achieving success while overcoming challenges.

“The road to success is not always perfect,” Jones said. “There will be bumps along the way, and it’s important to hear that.”

The event is also sentimental for the teachers who taught the seniors when they were young.

“The kids look up to the seniors and our teachers get to see the impact of the time they spent with them,” Daily said.

Graduation will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Bear Stadium in Brownsboro.
