Authorities find 3,500 marijuana plants in Van Zandt County

VAN ZANDT COUNTY – More than 3,500 marijuana plants were discovered Wednesday morning in a field located north of Hwy. 80, and east of Hwy. 19 near Fruitvale in Van Zandt County.



Van Zandt County Chief Deputy George Flowers tells CBS 19 the plants have been destroyed, and the scene is now clear.

Officers discovered the field following a DPS fly over Wednesday morning.

Flowers said a campsite was found at the location that included a sophisticated irrigation system.

Flowers said the operation is very similar to the other fields recently discovered in Smith and Anderson counties

No arrest have been made.

Van Zandt County was assisted by Canton Police, DEA, and Texas Department of Public Safety.

This is the fifth marijuana field discovered in East Texas in recent weeks. Two grows were discovered in Smith County and two grows in Anderson County. 

The investigation is ongoing.
