All were winners Thursday as students from several Tyler elementary schools competed in track events at John Tyler High School.

Students sped around the track in races of varying distances and all had fun. But there was school pride on the line and the air was filled with school spirit.

Each school had its own special cheer. When one of their students crossed the line first, the students screamed even louder.

But in some of the races, the student finishing last got the loudest cheers of the day.

Lisa Snell, Jack Elementary teacher acting as her school’s coach for the day, said the event was her favorite event of the school year.

“We do a track unit at the end of the year every year for all of the elementary schools to come and just have a competitive outlet so that its more realistic when these kids go into junior high where they will be competing. So we wanted to give them a real live example of what it will be like,” she said.
