Hispanic heritage and culture was celebrated by hundreds of students, staff and community members at John Tyler High School’s Hispanic Night.

Traditional Hispanic social dances, Spanish lullabies, student art and original clothing from students’ country of origin were a few of the elements showcased Wednesday night from different cultures.

The John Tyler choir performed Selena’s “Como La Flor”; Los Haupangers de JT’s Zapateado performed a traditional dance style in Hispanic culture involving stomping; and Nico Hernandez, a Tyler business owner and John Tyler alumnus, was honored.

Hispanic Night is a new event that provided students and staff the opportunity to represent their cultures in different ways, according to the Tyler Independent School District website.
