Tyler4Tech is making its second appearance at the annual SXSW Technology & Arts Trade Show Sunday through Wednesday in Austin. The event is expected to attract more than 65,000 techies from around the world.
Tyler4Tech is a consortium of Tyler’s local civic, education, and private enterprise companies and organizations whose goal is to attract new and existing technology companies, tech entrepreneurs, and skilled developers and programmers to locate to the Tyler community.
Its mission is to attract new tech companies, entrepreneurs, and developers to make Tyler their next home.
“In the 1930’s our community was built by risk-taking entrepreneurs innovating new ways to locate and extract oil,” said Tyler Mayor Martin Heines. “This entrepreneurial spirit continues to flourish in Tyler. Tyler4Tech is a prime example.”
Two dozen Tyler-area civic, business, and educational leaders headed to Austin today to represent Tyler in a 600-square-foot booth on the SXSW trade show floor. At last year’s show the group launched its www.Tyler4Tech.com website, providing a single-source of reference for tech entrepreneurs to find all the information essential for considering Tyler as an ideal location for their enterprise.
This year, the group plans to launch a new Technology Accelerator to provide training, mentoring and financial advice to tech entrepreneurs looking to start up their new businesses in Tyler. Also in the works is ETX Fest, a 3-day local event that focuses on entrepreneurship in technology, gaming and music.
Exhibits, DIY workshops, business seminars, gaming tournaments and an all-night “hackathon” are being planned for the inaugural event in October. Start Tyler Up, a new portal for equity financing made possible through the new intrastate crowdfunding exemption in Texas, provides additional funding opportunities for technology entrepreneurs locating their businesses in Tyler.
Tyler4Tech’s SXSW booth # 527 can be found near the Meet-Up Pavilion adjacent to aisles 500 and 600 at the Austin Convention Center. Its website can be found at www.Tyler4Tech.comand on Twitter @TYLER4TECH.
