‘Business Expo’ featured on this week’s show

On this week’s Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce radio show, the Chamber’s own Henry Bell promotes the three different classes and speakers at this week’s Business to Business Expo at Harvey Convention Center on Thursday.

The Waiting Room came about in a bizarre type of way. Owner Jonathan Van Voorhees was in a motorcycle accident and broke both his arms. He could no longer style hair or create stain glass. Van Voorhees said, “I decided to turn my waiting room for my hair salon into a showroom for my stained glass and also to showcase paintings of local artists.” The Waiting Room then evolved into a stage for local musicians to entertain his salon customers and for Tyler residents who were just looking for something different to do. Live entertainment is featured every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. He said, “I also sell handmade soaps and custom personalized facial and body scrubs along with imported gifts as well as a line of the very best hair care products and nutritional supplements.” The Waiting Room is at 518 South Spring Ave. in Tyler. The mission of Goodwill Industries of East Texas is to provide skills training and vocational opportunities for people with barriers to employment. Shannon Carter, PR & Marketing, said, “As you clean out closets, you may find items which could be donated to Goodwill Industries which we sell in our thrift stories. Goodwill uses the revenue from these stores to provide training, counseling, services and community employment to those with some type of barrier, such as a disability or a background of disadvantage.” Goodwill Industries of East Texas offers three training programs for persons with disabilities. It also provides training for high school graduates, military veterans, and ex-offenders who need to learn some additional skills to find a job.
