An Amazon delivery station will locate in Tyler, local officials announced Monday afternoon.
The Tyler Economic Development Council said it has completed the sale of 30 acres to Amazon for the construction of a new delivery station. The new 140,000-square foot facility will be located at the North Tyler Commerce Park located on CR 334 (Center Church Road), with construction beginning in the coming weeks.
“This delivery station will allow us to better serve customers in Tyler and across East Texas,” said Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the City of Tyler, Smith County and the Tyler Economic Development Council and look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future.”
The new delivery station will help power the last mile of Amazon’s fulfillment process by enabling fast, everyday delivery directly to customers’ doorsteps, according to the Tyler EDC. Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers and then employees process customer packages for last-mile delivery.
“On behalf of the City of Tyler, we are excited to have Amazon building a delivery station here in our city. The benefits from this project are enormous as it will add to our tax base, and provide faster service from when we make an Amazon purchase to the package showing up on our doorstep. This is a huge win for the City, County, and the Tyler Economic Development Council,” Tyler Mayor Don Warren said.
Smith County Judge Neal Franklin said the Amazon facility will make a tremendous impact on the community and its economy.
“We are thrilled to have Amazon construct a new delivery station to positively impact Smith County. The county’s partnership with the Tyler Economic Development Council continues to help grow our community and make Smith County the greatest place to live and work,” said Franklin.
Scott Martinez, TEDC President and CEO, said Amazon is a welcome addition to the community.
“We … are excited about the tremendous economic impact it will provide for our community,” said Martinez. “This new facility is a testament to the economic vitality of our community. This investment will translate into more growth, which benefits everyone who lives here.”
Martinez said the Tyler Economic Development Council is “appreciative of the significant work by Smith County Engineer Frank Davis, Tyler City Planner Kyle Kingma, East Texas Municipal District General Manager Lane Thompson, Jim Hedrick of Potter Minton Law Firm, and Rea Boudreau of The Brannon Corporation for helping make this impactful project possible.”
Since 2010, Amazon has invested $70 billion in Texas – including infrastructure and compensation to employees, the EDC said. The company employs 89,000 people in Texas and operates more than 80 operations facilities across the state.
The average base wage for hourly employees in the United States is more than $22 per hour and average total compensation to more than $29 per hour when you include the value of elected benefits (things like health care from the first day on the job). It hasn’t been announced when the company will begin accepting applications for the Tyler facility, but people are encouraged to reach out via email at amazon-pr@amazon.com .
Other significant economic investments are being made in Tyler.
Also in the Interstate Commerce Park, Great Southern Wood Preserving, better known as YellaWood, purchased 150 acres as the park’s first tenant and is moving forward with a $42 million project employing more than 100 people. Averitt Express is constructing a $10 million regional logistics hub employing about 70 people.
Additionally, BraunAbility will have an expanded facility at the Tyler Interstate Commerce Park. BraunAbility, which creates automobile mobility products for people with disabilities, is partnering with SunCap Property Group to construct a 140,000-square-foot building on 29 acres at the park. The company currently employs 68 workers at its facility on State Highway 64. The expanded facility is expected to add 74 jobs with an average salary of $53,000.
The EDC has previously reported further multi-million-dollar investments being made into the commerce park, which is a 412-acre development with over a mile and a half of Interstate 20 frontage.
Additionally, Tyler is gaining more restaurants and retailers such as Bass Pro Shops. The Tyler City Council recently approved an economic development plan in partnership with Bass Pro, an agreement the city says aims to boost Tyler’s economy and infrastructure, solidifying the city as a key retail destination between Dallas and Shreveport. As part of the agreement, Bass Pro Outdoor World will receive a sales tax rebate, contingent on meeting specific performance criteria.
Also this fall, the city council approved a tax abatement to support the Hiland Dairy’s planned expansion, which is expected to generate up to $98 million in new investment and create 30 jobs with an average annual salary of $66,000. This expansion will add more than 90,000 square feet and aims to ease overcapacity at the current Tyler facility. Hiland Dairy has been operating in Tyler since acquiring its current facility in 2017. The expansion will bring the total number of employees at the facility to 140. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
