CONNOR WALTERS, ONE of the owners of Silver Grizzly Espresso, reacts to being named in Food & Wine magazine as a coffeehouse worth visiting.

Silver Grizzly Espresso, a popular downtown Longview hangout that serves local craft beers in addition to brewed coffee, has good grounds for being even more spirited.

Food & Wine magazine named Silver Grizzly in an online article on “The Best Coffee in Every State.” Top honors in Texas went to Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters in Dallas, which the magazine said is a “micro-op hiding in plain sight at the foot of the historic Fair Park Esplanade.”

Reporter David Land selurged readers to try Silver Grizzly Espresso as well as coffeehouses elsewhere in the Lone Star State, writing Texas “over floweth with worthy coffee roasters and shops …”

Word of the mention reached Silver Grizzly’s staff Saturday night after a patron read it on Food & Wine’s website, said Connor Walters, one of the owners of the coffeehouse.

Walters said he did not know how the business achieved the mention, adding, “It was an anonymous thing.”

However, he said, “We are just grateful that they were impressed enough with what we had to offer.

“I think people in Longview are excited there is a local business representing Longview.”

He said cappuccino is one of the more popular coffee drinks at Silver Grizzly Espresso.

“We use grass-fed cow milk, which is creamier and sweeter,” Walters said. He said employees make their own syrups at the coffeehouse.

Silver Grizzly Espresso opened in November 2016 at 100 W. Tyler St. with the intent of the owners to serve as a venue for conversation and occasional live music.

Since then, it has cultivated a following of college students, couples, downtown workers and others who enjoy its brewed coffees, teas and local beers.
