“The Simpsons” director/producer David Silverman told The Post last month of the show’s long run: “We don’t want it to end.”
Now, “The Simpsons” is scheduled to break the record for the longest-running prime-time scripted series in TV history.
Fox has renewed the show — now in its 28th season — for two more of them, meaning that the legendary animated series would break the Western drama “Gunsmoke’s” record of 635 episodes in Season 30.
“Take that ‘Gunsmoke!’ You lost a race you didn’t even know you were running!” Homer Simpson said Friday in a statement.
As a Fox series, “The Simpsons” debuted in 1989, launched by producers Matt Groening, James L. Brooks and the late Sam Simon.
This season, the show averages 7.2 million viewers across all platforms.
