The Tyler Jaycees is working to revamp its chapter and is debuting a new fall attraction.

Member Michelle Perry recently sent the Tyler Paper information about the changes. Below are excerpts from her email.

“The Jaycees is a worldwide or-ganization that encourages young adults (ages 18-40) to get involved with the community and bring energy and insight to solving problems locally and around the world. We recruit young adults that have a desire to be a part of something greater and a passion for making a difference in the community around them.

“Our chapter has been here since 1931 and (is) known for several events that occur annually, such as the Easter Egg hunt for the blind with beeping eggs, The Fourth of July Firework show and the haunted house every October, just to name a few.

“Recently we have decided to re-vamp and re-energize the chapter as a whole and we hope to expand our contribution to the community by improving the activities we are already involved with and coming up with new exciting events as well.

“One of our first projects to show the changes we are making is re-focusing our theme and target audience for our huge October event. This year instead of a haunted house, we are building a 28,000-square-foot maze (at 12338 Texas Highway 155 South),

“It is intended to be family friendly and even allow families to go through it together. There also will be a fun house, which is a smaller maze with obstacles and attention grabbers for the children of our community.”

“We plan to have bounce houses, a putting hole-in-one challenge, bean bag toss, face painting by Ju-Jubilees and more. … There will even be a Jaycee store this year where T-shirts will be available for purchase so those that attend can show their support for the chapter and what we are doing.

“We will be open Oct. 18 to 31. On weekdays (school nights) our hours will be 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on the weekend we plan to open at 4 p.m. and stay open late until crowds begin to thin out! We want to serve as many people as possible!

“Keep in mind we are a nonprofit organization so all the money raised from each of the events is to fund the next event planned for the community. The more we raise, the more we can do for the community.”
