Those on hand to present the award were: Brent Annear, Texas Medical Association’s director of media relations and PR; Angela Driggs, executive director of the Smith County Medical Society; and Dr. Li-Yu Mitchell, local family physician and member of Texas Medical Association’s Council on Health Promotion, which oversees the awards.

Doctors and other members of the association’s Council on Health Promotion — along with former print and broadcast journalists — judged the entries for accuracy, significance, quality, public interest and impact.

Mansfield and Garvin received a plaque, certificates and monetary awards.

The Texas Medical Association’s vision is to improve the health of all Texans.

The organization strives to provide patients with good information and believes journalists help them do that by providing good health care coverage.
