This is the one recipe I look forward to the most every Thanksgiving. Each year, I can't wait until the first day I see bags of fresh cranberries in the grocery store. In addition to this recipe, I will buy a couple of extra bags to store in the refrigerator for later use.
This recipe is very easy and, if you haven't made fresh cranberries before, this technique makes them practically foolproof. Use leftover cranberry sauce on toast, turkey sandwiches or as a spread with cheese and crackers.
The Grand Marnier in the recipe infuses the cranberries with a rich orange flavor. Pouring the liqueur over the cranberries immediately after they come out of the oven lets the flavor infuse into the cranberries, while the alcohol steams out as a vapor.
Grand Marnier Cranberries
1 bag fresh cranberries
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In an 8 x 8 baking pan combine the cranberries, orange juice, cinnamon and sugar. Stir to combine and place in the oven. Cook for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Take out of the oven, stir in the Grand Marnier and allow to cool. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours. This can be made up to 2 days ahead of time.
