When it comes to patriotic food, apple pie tops the list of well-respected favorites. And along with hot dogs and fireworks, apple pie is the quintessential Fourth of July dessert.
On July 3 at 7:30 p.m., the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and Liberty Hall will present “American as Apple Pie,” a patriotic concert featuring Tyler Big Band.
Prior to the concert the ETSO will hold a apple pie contest. They are looking for entries and if you make a great apple pie, you are urged to enter the contest.
The pies will be judged on appearance, crust and flavor by a panel of judges and the winner will be announced after the concert.
This week on FRESH Ideas on KYTX-CBS19, I was joined by Chef Simon Webster from Sabor a Pasion Estate & Vineyard in Palestine. The winner of the contest will receive a perfect pastry class taught by Chef Webster and will be able to invite three friends to be part of the class.
There also is a youth division (age 8 to 14) that awards $50 to the winner.
Entry forms and complete details can be found at www.etso.org or from the ETSO office at 107 E. Erwin St., Tyler. Entry forms must be turned in by close of business June 27.
They can be dropped off, along with entry payment, at the ETSO office or mailed to PO Box 6323, Tyler TX 75711.
