East Texans can learn more about the work to speed up Bible translation during a Wycliffe Associates banquet April 9 in Tyler.
The event, set for 7-9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 5701 South Broadway Ave., will include a complimentary meal and program. Reservation deadline is April 1.
Wycliffe Associates is using modern technology to speed up Bible translation by decades, according to information about the event. What used to take up to 50 years to complete one translation, now can be done in a matter of months using modern computers, notebooks and iPads.
One of the efforts is called MAST (Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation). This enables local churches to translate their own language, which eliminates the need for translators to learn the language and culture. However, to do this churches need tablets loaded with Bible translation software, and easy access to translators to help them with difficult passages.
Guests at the banquet will have the opportunity to learn more about the work of Wycliffe Associates and the needs.
To reserve a place, call Alice Wright at 903-316-3403. April 1 is the deadline.
