What qualities do leaders possess?
It depends on who you ask but almost everyone agrees that true leaders share many traits: confidence, commitment, creativity, communication skills, intuition, honesty, a sense of humor blended with a strong work ethic and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to inspire.
President John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are leader.”
Businessman John D. Rockefeller is credited with saying, “Good leadership consists of showing average people how to do the work of superior people.”
Speaking on leadership, Andrew Ca-rnegie, a pioneering industrialist, said, “No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it.”
Those who want to be a leader or improve leadership skills are encouraged to take part in the Tyler area Leadercast set for May 9 at Green Acres Baptist Church’s CrossWalk Conference Center. The theme, “Beyond You,” challenges participants to focus efforts outward instead of inward.
Featured during the live broadcast from Atlanta will be Andy Stanley, author; Malcolm Gladwell, author; Archbishop Desmond Tutu, human rights activist; Randall Wallace, writer, director and producer; Bill McDermott, business leader; Laura Schroff, author and sales executive; Henry Cloud, psychologist and consultant; Simon Sinek, leadership expert; and Laura Bush, former first lady.
Leadercast is being promoted as the largest convergence of leaders in the world. Its goal is to “serve individuals and organizations across all sectors who want to become intentional about raising their standard of leadership.”
So, how does one become a leader?
The promoters of Leadercast suggest it begins with desire: “We’re human before we’re leaders. Every piece of content we produce is aimed at the human heart. Every single event element we toil over is meant to connect with the ache inside that longs for something greater. We’re focused on developing the core of the leader first believing that the principles that follow will take root, and a leader worth following will be the end result.”
Leadercast is being presented by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Tyler. To reserve tickets, contact the chamber.
