The Women’s Symphony League of Tyler will host its 65th Annual Ball at Tyler’s Harvey Convention Center on Feb. 29. The theme, Cirque Symphonique, combines the wonderment and excitement of the circus with the inspiring music of East Texas Symphony Orchestra.

“The circus and the symphony are both magical experiences,” Co-chair Ginger Young said.

The ball raises funds for East Texas Symphony Orchestra.

“However, this event is also an opportunity for us to recognize the members of the Junior Symphony League who have honored their two-year commitment of volunteering their time serving as ushers, fundraisers and more,” WSL President Jill Campbell said. “Our JSL has had a fun year volunteering at the ETSO performances and also helping raise funds for the East Texas Youth Orchestra.”

JSL members are high school students.

“The WSL Ball provides an opportunity to spotlight the senior students who have successfully completed their service commitment of 2,600 hours by their presentation at this formal event,” Co-chair Jennifer Gaston said. “Since the WSL mission is to promote the growth of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, while also encouraging music education throughout our community, membership in the JSL enables us to instill these students with a sense of duty and the fulfillment that comes through volunteerism.”

Ginger Young added, “Increasing their knowledge and appreciation of music helps ensure they will be ready to take their places of leadership; maintaining the majesty of music for generations to come.”

Guests will be greeted by the sounds of East Texas Youth Orchestra under direction of Felix Torres.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include presentation of JSL at 7:30 p.m. and a dinner catered by Willow Brook Country Club with beverages by Dakotas.

An ensemble from the ETSO, led by ETSO Music Director and Conductor Richard Lee, will perform during presentation of the JSL.

The Pictures Band and Live 5 will perform. The evening will include a benefit drawing for a $5,000 shopping spree to Susan Robinson Fine Jewelry, a candy bar, casino, photos by Donna Cummings Photography, photo booth by Tyler PhotoBooth Co. and more.

“This year both seniors and juniors will once again be presented. The juniors and seniors will again stay to enjoy the evening with their families and other members of the JSL,” Gaston said.

The WSL is the largest source of funding for ETSO and shows its commitment to education through a scholarship program that helps students pay for instrument costs, music lessons and the costs to attend classes and workshops.

Campbell encouraged the public, “Please join us at the WSL Ball to celebrate these amazing high school students. The 2019-2020 year for the Women’s Symphony League has been one of building friendships and celebrating our community’s rich history of music.”

The public is invited to take part in the ball.

On behalf of WSL membership, Campbell expressed her gratitude.

“As we all work together, we are a symphony of volunteers who make beautiful music in Tyler and East Texas. Every concert our patrons attend, every dollar donated, and every hour volunteering helps keep the music playing in our community.

“The WSL brings the beauty of music to ALL of East Texas, not just one segment of the population. We have a tradition of inclusiveness we plan to continue for many years to come. We appreciate our patrons so much for their constant support and dedication,” she said.
