Girls Basketball Roundup: Lady Raiders, Bullard take wins

Tyler Lee 53, Mesquite 35

MESQUITE — Aaliyah Morgan and Alyssia Thorne scored 16 points each to lead the Tyler Lee Lady Raiders to a road win over Mesquite on Tuesday in a District 11-6A basketball game.



Morgan added 14 rebounds, six blocks and three steals.

Aaliyah Campbell had nine points for the Lady Raiders.

Lee led 19-5 after the first quarter, 26-19 at halftime and 40-26 after three quarters.

Lee (19-5, 3-0) will host Rockwall on Friday. Mesquite (13-15, 0-4) is scheduled to visit Rockwall next Tuesday.

Bullard 75, Cumberland Academy 19

The No. 10 Bullard Lady Panthers, led by Haley Day’s 16 points, scored a 75-19 win over Cumberland Academy on Tuesday in a District 16-4A girls basketball at the Lady Knights’ gym in Tyler.

Others in double figures for Bullard (23-4, 5-0) were Stephanie King (13), Jordy Martin (12) and Haley Minton (11). Also scoring for the Lady Panthers were Jaycee Baird (6), Erin Berry (6), Bailey Smith (4), Lamaria Thompson (3) and Keili Richmond (3).

Bullard plays host to Chapel Hill at 6 p.m. Friday, while the Lady Knights are slated to play at Kilgore on Friday.

Frankston 58, Palestine Westwood 23

PALESTINE — Kelsey Loebig scored 18 points and Abbie Ramsey added 11 as the Frankston Maidens opened District 20-3A girls basketball play with a 58-23 win over Palestine Westwood on Tuesday.

Frankston improves to 13-9 on the season and will host Crockett at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Maggie Caveness added seven points for the Maidens with Keryonna Eldridge and Teallie Tatum adding six points each.

Union Grove 71, Beckville 37

UNION GROVE — Macey Alston and Carleigh Judd each scored 22 points to help lift Union Grove to a 71-37 win over Beckville on Tuesday in a District 16-2A girls basketball game at the Lion Center.

Makena Littlejohn was also in double figures for the Lady Lions, who improve to 14-6 overall and 3-1 in district. Beckville falls to 9-9 and 2-1.

Others scoring for UG were Madelynn Lacaze (8) and Shayla Gallagher (3).

The Lady Lions play host to the Tyler HEAT on Friday with JV action beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity.

Hallsville 44, Pine Tree 32

LONGVIEW — Hallsville and Pine Tree girls basketball teams went head-to-head on the hardwood where they looked to even their district record to 2-2 but in the end, it was the visiting Ladycats who were able to do that with a 44-32 victorY.

The Lady Pirates are 1-3 against district opponents.

Hallsville’s Laikyn Smith was the game’s high scorer with 19 points. Mallory Pyle was next in line with seven points as Olivia Simmons and Kelci Wilson each tossed in six points. Baylie Perkins scored three points. Catherine Warford had two points and Faith Baliraine came away with one point.

Malaeka Wilson led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 11 points. McKenzie Kirk was next in line with eight while Kameron Polk scored six. D’Karia Woodard dropped in five as Destinee McCray and Antranae Thomas each scored one point.

Pine Tree is slated to return to action Friday when it takes on Marshall on the road. Hallsville will play host to John Tyler.

Gladewater 66, Winona 44

GLADEWATER — Ebony Pipkin scored 21 points, Victoria Perry added a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Lady Bears and Gladewater moved to 4-0 in District 16-3A with a 66-44 win over Winona.

Haileigh Oliver added 12 points for the Lady Bears. Bri Boyd had seven rebounds, Oliver four assists and two steals, Kamryn Floyd two points and three steals, Zandrea Tyeskie two steals, Pipkin six steals and Perry and Sydney Spurlock five steals apiece. Spurlock also added five rebounds and six points, and Boyd blocked four shots.

Sabine 46, Troup 27

TROUP — Mallory Furrh led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points, and the Sabine Cardinals pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a 46-27 District 16-3A win over Troup.

Mikinzi Cantrell added nine points, Maddie Furrh and Blaire Kaufman six apiece, Halyn McKenzie, Hailey Davis and Mercedes Willett four apiece and Aubree McCann two.

Sabine (13-7, 4-0) hosts Gladewater on Friday. Troup plays at White Oak.

Harmony 52, West Rusk 25

NEW LONDON — Kaylee Clemens scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in leading the Harmony Lady Eagles to a 52-25 win over Harmony on Tuesday in a District 16-3A girls basketball game.

Clemens added four steals, two blocks and two assists.

Others contributing to the Harmony victory were Dacey Dawons (8 points, 2 steals), Raylee Willie (7 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals), Kinzee Settles (7 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals), Kati Burkham (6 points), Madi Rhame (5 points, 2 steals), Lanie Trimble (4 points), Jenci Seahorn (3 points, 5 rebounds) and Lillie Jones (2 points, 2 rebounds).

Harmony plays host to Arp on FRiday with West Rusk visiting Winona.

Monday

Canton 38, Farmersville 35

FARMERSVILLE — Amari Welch scored 12 points and the Canton Eaglettes held off a comeback attempt by Farmersville in scoring a 38-35 non-district girls basketball win on Monday.

The Eaglettes (15-8) were also led by Olivia Norrell (7 points), Ashley Riffe (6), Shameir Quimby (6), Kayden Prox (5) and Averie Cantrell (2).

Canton opens District 14-4A play on Friday by hosting Wills Point. JV is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:15 p.m.
