The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Wood County and other areas of East Texas from midnight to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees expected for portions of north central and northwest Louisiana and northeast Texas.

“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the NWS said. “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.”

The NWS said a gradual warming trend will begin Tuesday and continue through Wednesday, with dry conditions persisting through midweek until the chance for rain increases.

“Increasing low level moisture return Wednesday afternoon and night will set the stage for increasing showers and a few thunderstorms late over Southeast Oklahoma and East Texas, which will spread across the remainder of the region Thursday ahead of an upper level disturbance,” the NWS said.
