WHITEHOUSE — Whitehouse had a total of six student-athletes sign to compete at the next level on Wednesday inside C.L. Nix Wildcat Arena.

Signing were football players Gabe Stroud (University of North Texas), Kyren McCullough (Kilgore College), Chris Woodley (Hardin-Simmons University) and Brycen Record (MidAmerica Nazarene University), baseball player Keegan McCord (St. Edward’s University) and softball player Sierra Channel (Kilgore College).

Stroud officially signed in December, but he was able to celebrate with his classmates on Wednesday.

“I’m very excited,” Stroud said. “The coaches and the coaching staff and the environment were great. I loved it when I went there for a fall game visit. I just love the community.”

McCullough plays on the offensive line and will play at Kilgore College.

“I just really liked the program,” McCullough said. “I liked everything they had going on. I felt like that was a good place for me. I talked it over with my family, and I just wanted to take my talents and academics there and just go there and be great.”

McCullough said he plans to major in accounting.

Woodley played center for the Wildcats but will transition to tight end at Hardin-Simmons.

“It really felt like home,” Woodley said. “Everybody there was super nice, the facilities are incredible and the coaching staff is next level.”

Woodley said he plans to major in pre-med with hopes of being an anesthesiologist.

Record, a linebacker, had three tackles and a tackle for loss for the Wildcats. He will play at MidAmerica Nazarene.

“I really love the family aspect of that whole program,” Record said. “The coaching staff there and the whole family aspect made it so relatable. I’m really big on family, and I love my family. I really wanted to go into a program where I knew I could be welcomed in as a family member and not just another object or another number.”

Record said he plans to major in kinesiology.

McCord, a catcher, hit .352 with four triples last season and threw out nine attempted base stealers.

He will play at St. Edward’s.

“It’s a prime location in Austin, which has got everything, the best of the worlds there,” McCord said. “They’ve got really good academics. And they were Top 25 in baseball this year, so they’re a really good baseball school and it’s a place I can play.”

McCord said he plans to major in biology.

Channel is a middle infielder for Whitehouse and will play at Kilgore College. Channel hit .308 last season and had a .815 fielding percentage.

“I personally got to tour there, and it was a super nice facility,” Channel said. “I’m super excited about the coach. She’s a great coach, and I’m super excited to be with her.

“Kilgore also has my PTA program that I’ve always wanted, so when I went there, it just felt like home and the perfect fit for me.”

Channel said she wants to be a physical therapy assistant.

Whitehouse head softball coach Kaegan Jimenez said Channel is graduating high school in three years.
