Tyler Legacy’s soccer season ends in OT in regional semifinals

ROUND ROCK — Two overtime goals by Cypress Woods gave the Wildcats a 3-1 victory over the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders in the Class 6A Region II semifinals Friday afternoon at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.



Legacy put pressure on Cypress Woods early, but an own goal from the Red Raiders gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with 26:56 left in the first half.

Mario Delgado scored for the Red Raiders with 5:02 remaining in the first half to tie the game.

The score remained 1-1 throughout the second half, sending the game to overtime.

Neither team scored in the first 10-minute overtime period. In the second overtime period, Cypress Woods (17-4-4) scored off of a corner kick with 3:27 on the clock and then added another on a penalty kick with 2:30 remaining to take the victory.

Cypress Woods advances to face Duncanville at 11 a.m. Saturday in the regional final in Round Rock.

Legacy finished the season with a 14-5-5 record and advanced to the regional tournament for the first time since 2012.
