Softball Roundup: Legacy falls to Mesquite; Troup’s Gillispie throws perfect game; Morris homers twice in Whitehouse’s district win

MESQUITE 11, TYLER LEGACY 9
MESQUITE — After trailing 5-0 early, Tyler Legacy scored eight runs in the middle innings to take an 8-7 lead, but a four-run fifth inning lifted Mesquite to an 11-9 victory.
ReNaa Hicks went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for Legacy. Hadison Maxey had two triples and two RBIs, and Ruby Byers had two singles.
Aubrie Kirk allowed 11 runs — three earned — on seven hits with two strikeouts and four walks in five innings. Byers allowed one hit in a shutout inning.
At the TASO Softball Classic Legacy went 1-1-1, defeating Malakoff (5-0), tying Winnsboro (3-3) and falling to Hudson (7-2).
Against Malakoff, Hicks had a triple, single and two RBIs. Aymette Mata had a double. Kirk struck out five in a two-hit shutout in five innings.
Against Winnsboro, Haley Tucker, Gracie Albritton and Byers all had a hit. Byers allowed one earned run with two strikeouts in five innings.
Against Hudson, Hicks, Maxey and Tucker all had a hit.
TROUP 15, SABINE 0
TROUP — Taylor Gillispie pitched a perfect game over four innings, striking out eight, and Kiyah Arberberry blasted two home runs and a single to account for five RBI as Troup rolled to a 15-0 win over Sabine.
Ava Hays had three singles and an RBI for Troup. Olivia Anderson tripled, singled and drove in a run. Gillispie doubled twice and plated two runs. Jenna Coleman doubled and drove in a run. London Driggers had a triple and two RBI, and Shiloh Sluder, Cassie Murry and Liliana Priest all drove in runs.
WHITEHOUSE 13, TEXAS HIGH 1
WHITEHOUSE — Kyndal Morris homered twice as Whitehouse cruised past Texas High in the District 10-5A opener.
Morris had three RBIs.
Paige Goodell had three doubles. Taylor Morris had two hits with a double, and Lane Crawford had two hits. Riley Ohlsen and Shilee Yutterman each had a double, and Yutterman drove in three runs.
Taylor Morris allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts in five innings.
GRACE 9, GLADEWATER 8
GLADEWATER — Grace Community edged the Gladewater Lady Bears, 9-8.
Karlee Moses doubled once and singled twice and Janiah Strickland had three singles and an RBI in the loss for Gladewater. Caydence Martin singled twice and drove in a run. Alayah Gordon had a triple, single and RBI, Makayah Boone a triple and an RBI and Adyson Evans an RBI. Gordon struck out 10 and walked two in seven innings pitched.
BULLARD 10, PINE TREE 0
LONGVIEW — Bullard’s Brooklyn Brannen struck out 15, walked two and allowed one hit over seven innings as the Lady Panthers blanked Pine Tree, 10-0.
Denim Boles doubled and drove in three runs and Brannen had two hits and scored three times for Bullard.
Nia Woodson had Pine Tree’s lone hit, a double. Taylor Burkhart struck out three and walked three in seven innings.
VAN 7, GRAND SALINE 2
GRAND SALINE — Jaiey Potter struck out 11, walked three and allowed one earned run in seven innings as the Van Lady Vandals notched a 7-2 win over Grand Saline.
Maylan Hale homered, doubled and drove in three runs to pace Van on offense. CharLee Carr singled twice and drove in a run. Mahayla McKinney doubled, singled and plated a run and Tatum Horton added a double and a single.
MARSHALL 17, JACKSONVILLE 6
JACKSONVILLE -— Maggie Pringle collected three singles and drove in two runs, and the Marshall Lady Mavericks romped to a 17-6 win over the Jacksonville Maidens on Tuesday.
Bri Theus added two hits and two RBI for Marshall. Addi Watkins tripled, singled and drove in a run. Anna Belle Peters singled and drove in two runs. Ava Flanagan added a single and an RBI. Taylor Crutcher singled and plated two runs, and Aliyah Sharp, Molly Skinner and Alex Stevens all drove in runs.
Peters struck out 10 and walked seven in five innings.
Ryan Ramirez had three doubles and an RBI in the loss for the Maidens. Hannah Gonzales doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs. Lacey Whetsell had a double and an RBI, and Gretchen Ault singled and drove in one run.
ARP 16, WEST RUSK 1
NEW LONDON — Addison Carpenter doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs, Aubry Way singled twice and drove in two and Neci Potts added two RBI with a double and a single as the Arp Lady Tigers notched a 16-1 win over West Rusk.
Lacy Fletcher and Hannah Martindale also had RBI for Arp. Fletcher worked five innings in the circle, striking out six and walking one.
Paisley Smith doubled and drove in a run and Aylin Rocha added two singles in the loss for West Rusk.
HAWKINS 11, ORE CITY 4
HAWKINS — Kalyn Ellison was dominant in the circle, striking out 11 and walking one in seven innings, and Karsyn Johnson doubled, singled and drove in three runs to pace the offense as Hawkins notched an 11-4 win over Ore City.
Taetum Smith and Jaci Smith both had two hits for Hawkins. Jewelia Trull doubled and drove in two runs. Londyn Wilson doubled, and Ellison tripled and drove in a run.
Brooke Boyd had two hits and Karie Rodgers doubled for Ore City. Addisyn Perez struck out eight and walked two in five innings, and Jordan Johnson fanned three with no walks in an inning of work.
RAINS 10, RUSK 3
RUSK — The Rains Ladycats notched a 10-3 win over the Rusk Lady Eagles.
Karlie Davis doubled and singled and Riley Collins singled twice for Rusk. Addison McCown added a single and an RBI, and Braleigh Goff doubled and drove in a couple of runs. Goff struck out four and walked two in 5.2 innings.
