Softball Notebook: Arp’s Neci Potts, Canton’s Kai Hudson take weekly honors

Arp’s Neci Potts and Canton’s Kai Hudson have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Softball Player of the Week honors for games played Feb. 24-March 1.
Potts is the Hitter of the Week, and Hudson is the Pitcher of the Week.
Potts hit .773 with 17 hits, five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 13 RBIs, 14 runs and two walks.
Hudson, a senior Stephen F. Austin signee, allowed no runs on five hits in four games, striking out 47 batters with four walks in 19 innings. She had 17 strikeouts against Royse City.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
PITCHING
Whitehouse’s Taylor Morris went 3-0 with a save, a 0.447 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
Bullard’s Brooklyn Brannen had 57 strikeouts and a 1.23 ERA in 28.1 innings.
Grace Community’s Kat Neal picked up three wins, striking out 25 batters with a 1.15 ERA in 24.1 innings.
Arp’s Lacy Fletcher had a 3.00 ERA, 25 strikeouts (10 looking) with a 0.958 WHIP in 24 innings.
Troup’s Kiyah Arterberry had two wins, allowed no runs and struck out 19 batters in 12.2 innings.
HITTING
Tyler Legacy’s ReNaa Hicks went 17-for-22 (.773) with a home run, a triple, a double, five RBIs, 12 runs and nine stolen bases in seven games.
Whitehouse’s Kyndal Morris went 8-for-12 (.667) with a double, two home runs, nine RBIs and seven runs. Paige Goodell went 9-for-16 (.563) with four doubles, three RBIs, 11 runs and seven stolen bases.
Bullard’s Kirstin Malone hit .471 with eight hits, two home runs, three RBIs, 12 runs, five walks and seven stolen bases.
Grace Community’s Sadie Arriola hit .444 with nine hits, two home runs, nine RBIs and four walks.
Canton junior Lily Cervantes hit .625 with 10 hits, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, nine RBIs and seven runs. Junior Chloe How hit .625 with 10 hits, five doubles, two walks, four RBIs and five runs. Senior Kara Pride, a Stephen F. Austin signee, hit .600 with nine hits, a double, three triples, a home run, 10 RBIs and five runs.
Troup’s Makayla Spencer went 9-for-17 (.529) with 10 runs, seven RBIs, two doubles and two triples.
Mineola’s Mahayla McMahon hit .412 with seven hits, two doubles, one triple, four RBIs and eight runs scored. Journie Wilson hit .375 with one double, two home runs and seven RBIs. The two home runs came in one game against Brownsboro.
Grand Saline freshman Madi Fugate hit .571 with 12 hits, two doubles, 11 runs and three stolen bases. Senior Alissa Fugate hit .563 with nine hits, four runs scored, four doubles, one home run, four RBIs and a stolen base. Junior Gracie Jo Currey hit .500 with seven hits, two doubles, four RBIs and three runs.
East Texas teams ranked in the Texas Girls Coaches Association rankings are Hallsville No. 24 in Class 5A; Sulphur Springs No. 5, Bullard No. 14 and Gilmer No. 20 in 4A; DeKalb No. 8, Arp No. 16, Crockett No. 19, Hooks No. 20, Atlanta No. 21, Troup No. 22 and Elkhart No. 24 in 3A; and Timpson No. 3, Detroit No. 9, Groveton No. 15, Mount Enterprise No. 19 and Beckville No. 23 2A/1A.
