Brown hits career-high 41 points in Lions’ win

Jaishua Brown had a record night on Tuesday, scoring a career-high 41 points in the Tyler Lions’ 70-38 win over Whitehouse in a District 10-5A basketball game at the Lions Den.

Brown, the 6-5 senior standout, was on fire, hitting six 3-pointers while connecting on 5 of 5 at the free throw line.



It wasn’t just offense either as Brown had 11 rebounds, five steals and five blocks.

The win moved the Lions to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in district. The Wildcats fell to 5-9 and 0-3.

Tyler broke out to a 12-4 first quarter lead as Brown hit for eight points in the period.

Others helping the Lions to the win were: Geordon Mitchell (11 points, 2 3-pointers, 2 steals, 1 block, 1 rebound), Damein Yarbrough (6 points, 2 rebounds), Keiland Garvey (4 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 block), Tayvean McMiller (4 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block), Jasyn Grayson (3 points, 4 rebounds), Alec Dewberry (1 point, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), LaTavion Golden (4 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Cam Singleton (3 rebounds, 1 steal).

Ace Olivares led the Wildcats with 14 points, including two 3-pointers. He added three rebounds.

Also contributing for Whitehouse were: Muhammad Diarra (7 points, 2 rebounds), Chris Sturns (5 points, 1 3-pointer, 1 rebound), Layne Hooker (4 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal), Kadavion Pickens (4 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal), Preston Blakeley (2 points, 5 rebounds), Kade Richardson (2 points, 3 steals), Jordan Davis (1 rebound), Colton Seale (1 rebound), Justin Abello (1 rebound) and Ryder Kelley (1 rebound).

The Lions return to play on Friday, traveling to Nacogdoches to meet the Dragons in a 7:30 p.m. district contest.

Whitehouse is scheduled to host Hallsville at 7:30 p.m. Friday at C.L. Nix Wildcat Arena in Whitehouse.

After Christmas, both the Lions and Wildcats compete in the 70th Annual Wagstaff Holiday Classic on the Tyler Junior College campus.

The teams will play on Dec. 27 (Whitehouse vs. Cumberland, 2:15 p.m.; Tyler vs. Brownsboro, 6:15 p.m.) and Dec. 28 (Whitehouse vs. Brownsboro, 6:15 p.m.; Tyler vs. Brook Hill, 7:30 p.m.).
